Daniela Crisafulli, PhD student

Daniela Crisafulli is an Aerospace Engineer and a Ph.D. student at Politecnico di Torino where she is pursuing a doctorate in Aerospace Engineering. She earned a BSc in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in 2006 by discussing a thesis on the method of finite elements in elliptic differential equations. Afterward she attended an MSc in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. She spent a couple of months at Imperial College of London where she prepared her final thesis, with the supervision of Prof. Sergio Chiesa and Prof. Varnavas Serghides, from Department of Aerospace Engineering of Politecnico di Torino and Imperial College, respectively. Daniela Crisafulli earned the MSc in Aerospace Engineering in March 2009 at Politecnico di Torino with summa cum laude, presenting a work on Virtual Reality in concept design of aerospace systems. Her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering started in January 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Erasmo Carrera, from Politecnico di Torino. Her work is related to Multi-Scale Modelling, Design and Optimisation of Functionally Graded Materials. It deals with different aerospace engineering disciplines: the analysis of aerospace structures, such as shells and beams, the heat transfer in FGMs-based structures, the non-linear structural analysis and the use of computational tools. She is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. with a foreign co-advisor at the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Defense. At present she carries out her research at the CRP Henri Tudor of Luxembourg, thanks to an AFR grant from the Fonds National de la Recherche of Luxembourg.
